QWIO project

Bureau Veritas | Marine & OffshoreQuiet-Oceans and GLOBICE REUNION (GROUPE LOCAL D’OBSERVATION ET D’IDENTIFICATION DES CETACES) are extending their actions to reduce underwater noise impacts in the Indian Ocean. Already partners or member of the advisory committee of the European PIAQUO consortium, they will actively contribute to the newly launched Quieter Western Indian Ocean (QWIO) project coordinated by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and supported by the Fonds français pour l’environnement mondial (FFEM), the project will address:

  • Regional and local sound mapping and impact assessment toward aquatic species in the Indian Ocean
  • Identification and evaluation of technological and management solutions
  • Empowerment of national and regional stakeholders and the maritime sector on the issue, a cornerstone of both projects
