Kongsberg Maritime is a world leader in marine technology with an extensive portfolio of innovative and integrated products and solutions. Our propellers deliver good fuel economy, low vibration and noise levels and minimal cavitation. Kongsbergs unique capability at Kongsberg Hydrodynamic Research Centre, including two cavitation tunnels, is utilised within PIAQUO where the propeller performance is validated numerically and in model scale.
In GOAL 1 Kongsberg is first establishing a base line for the existing propeller when validating cavitation and Underwater Radiated Noise (URN) performance. The next step is to redesign the propeller aiming for a URN reduction while maintaining the efficiency. URN will also be measured in full scale and compared towards numerical and model scale results.
In Goal 2 Kongsberg will conduct model scale test, recording cavitation signal for development of the real-time cavitation and URN monitoring system to be placed onboard the full scale vessel.
